Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Program

The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program is jointly promoted by the Malaysia Tourism Authority and the Immigration Department of Malaysia. It enables foreigners to reside in Malaysia for a duration of ten (10) years.

Eligibility

It is open to citizens of all countries recognised by Malaysia regardless of race, religion, gender or age. Applicants can bring their spouses and unmarried children below the age of 21 as dependents.
So far over 42,000 people have been approved for the MM2H visa (as at 2018 statistics).

FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are expected to be financially capable of supporting themselves on this program in Malaysia.
Upon Application:
For applicants below the age of 50:
  • They must demonstrate liquid assets valued at a minimum of RM500,000 and offshore income amounting to RM10,000 per month.
  • When submitting certified copies of their Current Account as financial evidence, applicants must include the latest 3 months’ statements showing a monthly credit balance of RM500,000.
For applicants aged 50 and above:
  • They are required to provide proof of RM350,000 in liquid assets and offshore income of RM10,000 per month.
  • When presenting certified copies of their Current Account as financial proof, applicants must include the latest 3 months’ statements showing a monthly credit balance of RM350,000.
  • Government pensioners can instead demonstrate proof of receiving a pension of at least RM10,000 per month.
Upon Application:
For applicants below 50 years old:
  • They are required to open a fixed deposit account amounting to RM300,000.00.
  • After one year, the participant can withdraw up to RM150,000.00 for approved expenses related to house purchases, education for children in Malaysia, and medical purposes.
  • A minimum balance of RM150,000.00 must be maintained from the second year onwards and throughout their stay in Malaysia under this program.
For applicants aged 50 and above:
  • They need to open a fixed deposit account of RM150,000.00.
  • After one year, participants who meet the fixed deposit requirement can withdraw up to RM50,000.00 for approved expenses related to house purchases, education for children in Malaysia, and medical purposes.
  • A minimum balance of RM100,000.00 must be maintained from the second year onwards and throughout their stay in Malaysia under this program.

MEDICAL REPORT

All applicants and their dependents must provide a medical report from either a private hospital or a registered clinic in Malaysia.

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Approved participants and their dependents are obligated to have valid medical insurance coverage from any insurance company that is applicable in Malaysia. However, exemptions may be granted to participants who encounter challenges in acquiring medical insurance due to age or medical conditions.

PERSONAL BOND

Applicants applying are required to fulfill the personal security bond. Please refer to personal bond rate per person by nationality, ranging from RM200 to RM2000.00.

RESTRICTIONS
  • Participants are prohibited from engaging in employment while residing in Malaysia. Those seeking employment visas must directly apply to the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
  • Participants should avoid involvement in activities that may be sensitive to the local population or pose a threat to the country’s security.
  • Citizens from countries not recognized by Malaysia, including Israel, are not eligible to participate.
Translation of Documents:
All documents can be submitted in English. The necessary documents are listed on the government’s English language website.
Property Purchases:
Each participant is permitted to purchase residential properties, pre-approved by the Foreign Investment Committee of Malaysia, at a minimum price of MYR 1,000,000 (1M) each in areas such as Kuala Lumpur and Penang. In many other areas, the minimum price for purchased property is lower.
Domestic Helper:
Each participant can apply for one maid, subject to the prevailing guidelines of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
Education:
MM2H participants can bring their unmarried children below 21 years old as dependents. Dependents intending to pursue education in Malaysia must apply for a student pass. However, participants are responsible for all living costs and study fees for their dependents while in Malaysia.
Tax:
Tax exemption is granted for the remittance of offshore pension funds into Malaysia. Foreign-source income is not taxable in Malaysia.
